#0to100YVR Tech Event in Vancouver

Smythe Ratcliffe and Boast Capital sponsored a fantastic event in Vancouver yesterday evening with the theme of how to "Accelerate Your Tech Business".

Members of the Netcoins team attended the event. "The opportunity to learn from others is critical when building a startup," said Michael Vogel, CEO of Netcoins. "As we grow Netcoins, it's invaluable to learn from other startups about their own unique challenges."

The guest panel:

  • Keith Ippel, Co-Founder of Spring Activator
  • Kenshi Arasaki, Co-Founder of A Thinking Ape
  • Brent Holliday, Founder & CEO of Garibaldi Capital Advisors
  • Ray Walia, Executive Director of Launch Academy
  • The panel was moderated by Camellia Ho of Smythe Ratcliffe

During the discussions on capital raising for startups, Brent Holliday shared an interesting viewpoint that customers are the most inexpensive form of capital. Angel investors and venture capital firms all demand equity in the company (plus it takes time to raise money from investors), but delivering a strong product instead can negate the need for investment capital by means of steady customer revenue.

Netcoins at "TriCelerate" Entrepreneurs Meetup

The Netcoins team attended a January 27 meetup of entrepreneurs and startups, hosted by TriCelerate. The evening "really highlighted the vibrant startup community that is based out of the Vancouver suburbs," said Michael Vogel, CEO of Netcoins.

The evening also introduced a joint effort with another Vancouver accelerator, Spring Activator, which will be hosting a local flavour of the "KICK" program for startups.
